Scholarships

INEBRIA aims to grant conference attendance scholarships to four professionals from low and middle income countries (LMIC), facilitating their participation in the 20th INEBRIA Conference in Barcelona, Spain. This support will cover their travel, accommodation, and conference registration fee. Additionally, all successful scholarship recipients will be invited to participate in mentoring activities during the conference. Detailed information regarding these activities will be provided following the completion of the selection process.

Target beneficiaries

This opportunity is aimed at early-career stage professionals based in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), working in the field of brief interventions for alcohol and other drugs. This includes individuals from diverse sectors such as academia and research, healthcare, social care, community care, public administration, and civil society organizations.

Eligibility criteria for applicants

  • Applicants must be early-career stage professionals working in the field of brief interventions for alcohol and other drugs, with a maximum of 5 years post-PhD completion or 8 years of the highest academic degree earned if a PhD is not held.
  • Applicants must currently reside in a Low and Middle-Income Country (LMIC). To ensure eligibility, please verify that your country of residence is listed in the table provided in the following link.
  • Applicants must be members of INEBRIA. Membership is free of charge and accessible to individuals with proven expertise in the field of brief interventions for alcohol and other drugs, acquired through research or practical implementation in one or various settings. To join, please complete the registration form available on the INEBRIA website.
  • Eligibility requires having an abstract accepted for presentation in INEBRIA 2024. Non-acceptance of an abstract will be grounds for exclusion from consideration. To submit your abstract, please visit the following link.
  • Applications must be submitted entirely in English.

What do we offer?

INEBRIA offers four scholarships to cover travel and accommodation expenses and the registration fee for our 2024 conference. The organisers will make the arrangements for the long-distance travel, accommodation and registration of awarded applicants.

What is not covered by the scholarship?

Any expenses paid by the scholarship recipients for their conference attendance will NOT be reimbursed.

INEBRIA scholarships do NOT cover: facilitating or covering expenses of obtaining a visa; travel and health insurance; transport to or from the airport or hotel; travel or accommodation beyond the duration of the conference; compensation or reimbursement related to healthcare or additional travel services during the travel and stay of the scholarship recipients for the INEBRIA 2024 conference.

INEBRIA reserves the right to revoke the scholarship, either in full or in part, if the travel expenses for a successful applicant are deemed unreasonably high. In such cases, the funding may be reassigned to the subsequent most suitable applicant.

Selection process

Applications will undergo independent review by three members of the INEBRIA Coordinating Committee. Decisions will be based on the quality of the accepted abstract, the applicant’s provided rationale, and the demonstrated need for support.

Terms and conditions upon scholarship acceptance

Upon successful selection, applicants are required to sign a written agreement with INEBRIA, outlining the terms and conditions of the award.  An example is available here.

These conditions include the obligation to submit a brief report detailing the knowledge or contacts acquired during the conference after the event.
